Come see Lachat at Pittcon 2009!

Come visit the Lachat team at the Hach booth (# 2245) at the 60th Annual Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, March 8 - 13, 2009 at the McCormick Place South Convention Center in Chicago.

In the past year, Lachat Instruments Applications Chemists have developed over 35 new methods for the determination of ions in water, wastewater, seawater, and other matrices by Flow Injection Analysis. Several of these new developments include:
| • |
Inline Ammonia: use in-line distillation as a sample preparation technique. Save time and resources by eliminating the need for expensive off-line distillation hardware or glassware and freeing the lab analyst’s time from tending to complicated off-line distillation apparatus. Easily analyze hundreds of ammonia samples per day. |
| • |
Trace-level Nutrients: Developed utilizing Lachat’s new 2cm path length detector. Analyze nitrate, silicate, orthophosphate, and ammonia in water and seawater at sub-ppb levels through increased signal in the larger flow cell. |
| • |
Rapid IC Anions: EPA Approved method for the determination of 7 anions in under 7 minutes. Only Lachat offers the complementary technologies of Flow Injection Analysis and Ion Chromatography in a single instrument. |
| • |
Green Enzymatic Nitrate Reduction: Finally a true “green” method for nitrate reduction. This method breakthrough from Lachat utilizes Nitrate reductase, an enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of nitrate to nitrite, replacing environmentally harmful reagents (cadmium, hydrazine, and vanadium) used in conventional nitrate reduction analysis. Methods now available for water, seawater, and soil extract matrices. |
Lachat has two posters at Pittcon this year by Lachat Application Chemist, Scott Tucker, highlighting a couple of our recent method breakthroughs:

"Determination of Ammonia by Flow Injection Analysis Utilizing In-Line Distillation"
Session 1260 – Chemical Methods
Tuesday, March 10, morning

"Determination of Cyanide in Waters by Utilizing Gas Diffusion Separation and Amperometric Detection"
Session 2360 – Sample Preparation
Wednesday, March 11, afternoon

Come check out our instruments and visit with Scott and the Lachat team at Pittcon 2009!

New Standard Methods Data Pack Available for Download

Lachat Instruments has created a new Data Pack containing information on many of the Lachat methods in Standard Methods, 21st Edition. This Data Pack provides an example of the available application information for each of the parameters in which Lachat has developed methods contained in Standard Methods, 21st Edition.

The Lachat Instruments Applications team has developed many methods contained in Standard Methods, 21st Edition. Lachat recognizes Standard Methods as an important regulatory consensus body and has actively worked with this organization to develop methods that meet the standards of APHA, AWWA, WEF, and other internationally recognized authorities on water and wastewater quality.

Lachat recommends that users always check with their local regulatory authority to ensure a method meets their individual reporting requirements.

New 2-cm Path Length Methods Data Pack Available for Download

The Lachat Instruments Applications team has developed several methods utilizing a new 2-cm flow cell detector. These methods are able to reach lower detection limits than previously developed Lachat methods measuring the same parameter because of the increase in signal obtained through the larger flow cell, as well as optimization of other variables during method development.

This Data Pack contains detailed application information, including support data, on Lachat methods utilizing the 2-cm flow cell detector. Currently available 2-cm path length method parameters include:
• Ammonia
• Nitrate-Nitrite
• Orthophosphorus
• Silicate

New Lachat methods gain USEPA Approval for Drinking Water

Lachat Instruments, A Hach Company Brand, announces USEPA approval of their newly developed Ultra High Throughput Methods for Total Cyanide, Orthophosphate, and Nitrate/Nitrite under the National Primary Drinking Water (NPDWR) Regulations.

The Ultra High Throughput Methods allow for over 100 samples per hour to be analyzed through Lachat’s QuikChem 8500 Flow Injection Analyzer, increasing productivity & reducing reagent consumption. These methods are already considered equivalent for NPDES under the March 12, 2007 USEPA Method Update Rule.
