On March 12, 2007, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency promulgated a Method Update Rule (MUR) to the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act. The changes adopted in this ruling provide increased flexibility to the regulated community and laboratories in the selection of analytical methods and methods modification.
Many questions have been presented to Lachat regarding how the MUR will impact Lachat methods and whether they can be claimed equivalent to previously approved EPA methods. Therefore, a position statement for Lachat and Hach customers has been created to give a brief overview of the MUR’s impact to existing and future methods.
An updated list of Lachat methods that can be claimed equivalent for regulatory reporting has been created for our customers’ convenience.

Lachat Instruments and Hach Company will attempt to address any questions regarding the MUR and its impact on a laboratory’s reporting requirements; however, laboratories should always consult their regulatory auditors for a final ruling.
