New In-line Ammonia Methods
Method Overview
The in-line distillation methods cover the determination of ammonia in drinking, ground, and surface waters, domestic and industrial wastes, and TKN digests. For these methods, the sample is distilled in-line by mixing it with a borate buffer, adjusting the sample pH and decreasing the hydrolysis of cyanates and organic nitrogen compounds.
The sample is then heated to 120oC and distilled across a hydrophobic semi-permeable membrane into a stream of dilute sulfuric acid. Measurement of the distilled ammonia sample takes place by Flow Injection Analysis, using either a salicylate or phenolate colorimetric method.
